This is me standing beside the awesome spoon rack I made for my mom. I'm smiling because I convinced her I needed a drill press in order to drill the holes used to hang the spoons.

Here's a close up view showing the detailed racks to hold the spoons. I used the piece of wood with the most character for the top so it could be used as a shelf too.

You can see how precisely the door fits. Even, close fitting gaps allow the door to have an aesthetic appearance while preventing jamming and swaying. I used a "Bartley Gel Varnish" satin wood finish, 5 coats in all.

I chose to not to put a back in because of the color of the wall and how it complimented the spoons. I put a groove on the inside back edge in case I wanted to add a back later when moved to a different colored wall.

So as to make everything from wood, with the exception of the hinges, I turned the small handle out of scrap walnut and sunk it into the frame. My mom was very pleased. Not a bad result for a 15 year old.
