Dimensions (inches):
  Width:   13.5
  Height:   16.5
  Depth:   4.5
Materials:   Primary wood is thai rosewood.

The left side is for hanging necklaces and pendants, while the right side is padded for pins and broaches.
Magnets inlayed beneath the top and bottom felt pads (center divider) keep the door snugged when closed.

In order to keep the door frame grain contiguous around the door perimeter, I started with 7/8 stock, sliced off a veneer from the right side stock, cut in the bee, and then glued the piece back to where it was. Then brought all the stock down to 5/8”

The background is jelutong. The flower petals are yellowheart, cherry, and swiss pear. The stamens are irroko.

The bee is of the same material as the flower, with the addition of black walnut for head and legs, and gabon ebony for the eyes.

Judges Comments
AJH : This is very nice, with fanatastic marquetry. The bottom shelf piece is a bit too large and doesn't quite fit withthe rest of the design, and draws attention away from your lovely work.
EW : Thai rosewood is very elegant, so I can imagine the exquisite tactile qualities of this piece. The marquetry is very creative and nicely done. Functionally, the storage options are limited to necklaces and pins, which make it a narrowly defined design, but it fulfills the promise nicely. My eye wants to see more height relative to the width, and more visual weight -- e.g. wider rail at the bottom of the composition.
LG : This is very lovely marquetry
RJ : Attractive curved top with a Chinese feel. Pretty marquetry very well executed. I don't think the overhanging bottom shelf works aesthetically, and the cabinet I believe would have worked better overall if it was maybe 4" or so taller thus reducing the squareness of the front elevation.
