  Depth:   7
Materials:   Faces:             Tiget Maple/Walnut
Box:                Poplar
Back:              Baltic Birch
Back of Face:  Baltic Birch
Cabinets are made in pairs to eliminate waste.  Walnut and maple face boards are temporarily glued together face-to-face, cut out with a band saw and then separated.  Face pieces are then hand shaped with belt sander and then hand sanded.  Pieces are then glued together alternately on a 1/4" Baltic Birch backing.

Cabinet boxes are made with poplar sides and interior separators appropriately dadoed.  The back is rabbeted to accept a Baltic Birch back.  The sides, top and bottom are  through dove tailed by hand.

The cabinet face is based on a published design but sized appropriately for the application.

Cabinet is finished with Minwax Tung Oil

Judges Comments
AJH : I would simply remove the cornice for a cleaner look that would make the intarsia on the doors the center of attention.
LG : Your design seems to lack completion and wholeness. By this I mean that the intarsia is wonderful but it needs context. A frame and cornice not of intarsia would help complete this look. The top of your case leaves us hanging at those outside corners. It's a harsh corner created by that upward curve and it would be an improvement to bring those lines back down and into the cabinet by flattening it to horizontal or even curling it back downward within the confines of the outline of the cabinet.
RJ : Striking use of intarsia to good effect. I find the cornice a little uncomfortable because it visually floats independently of the theme on the doors.
