Dimensions (inches):
  Width:   30
  Height:   42.5
  Depth:   6.5
Materials:   The main part of the case is made from mahogany with maple and aspen top and bottom.
This curio was made with mortise and tenon joints. The case also uses dado joints to hide edges and for strenth.

The top has crown molding and the botton cove.  Much of the molding on the curio I made from mahogany.

I put flutes on the door as well as chanfers on the stiles. The shelf hardware was put into dados to help conseal.

I like to use a cobination of dark and light color woods.

The curio is stained in red mahogany with a stain finish.  The light color wood was left natural with high gloss poly.

Judges Comments
AJH : The large crown, especially with the large light-maple area in the center, is somewhat overpowering.
EW : A dramatic cabinet showing a lot of effort. Your use of contrasting woods is generally appealing, although I would prefer to see the crown be smaller and without the large maple element. Maybe a smaller maple detail or an intermediate shade would have worked better. The base is also too emphatic; I'd scale it back closer to the dimensions of the cabinet.
LG : You show some woodworking skill, now you need to hone your sense of style and proportion. The cornice and base are too large for this piece and the lighter crown adapted for use as a cornice draws the eye straight to it. Stick with it paying attention to scale on pieces you admire.
RJ : The general height to width proportions are pleasing, but I find the cornice just a little too big, as is the base. The piece seems to be well made and you've obviously put a lot of thought into your work here.
