After I saw a picture of Henry Studleys tool cabinet in the Tool Box Book I decided that it would be a good ideal to have all of my most commonly used hand tools in one convenient place over my work bench. Though similar in appearance to Studleys cabinet my cabinet is very different in design.

The backboard is solid mahogany. It is rabitted around the edges and floats in dado cuts inside the carcass. The backboard itself has dovetailed slots that the oak ledgers slide in. The oak ledgers have a 45 degree lip and are also mortise and tenon through the sides. There are no screws or nails in the back carcass. It is held together by interlocking hand cut joinery.

The cabinet has a hand rubbed tung oil and briwax finish.

The cabinet is faced with solid ebony with inlayed Mother of Pearl.

With the aid of lift up trays, the cabinet easily stores over 200 hand tools that are easily accessed and inventoried. The drawers are padded and felt lined. The cockbeading is mahogany and ebony. The drawer pulls are ebony violin endpins. The sides and backs of the drawers are made of poplar.

After serving in the first Gulf War, I was stationed 3 years in Hawaii where I became interested in woodworking as a relaxing and stress-relieving hobby. Now, I work as a service technician for a major communication company by trade and an avid woodworker during my free time.
