Dimensions (inches):
  Width:   18
  Height:   39
  Depth:   5
Materials:   Cabinet and shelf, are Red Oak. The back is 1/4 in. Birch Plywood. The entire project is stained brown Mahogany (water base stain). I wanted the water based stain to have an effect on the grain of the Red Oak.  The glass I used in the cabinet door (top section) is (14,1/4)  X  (14, 3/8)
clear glass with one inch and one eighth bevel. The frame of the door is grooved out 3/16 th's of an inch to hold the glass. The bottom section of the glass is (14, 1/4)  X  (6, 10/16).  The hinges are solid brass. I used two hinges. I also used three solid brass knobes, one on the door and two on the drawer. The joinery is Mortis and Tenning, and also Butting.
In combination with the two mentioned joinery, I also used Miller Dowels to hold the cabinet and shelves securely. The Crown, is made using one fourth, one halph, and one inch Red Oak material. The door frame is one halph inch material. The case and shelves are three quarter inch material.
Finally I used an interior oil based polyurethane. (two coates to finish the

(Front view) This is the front of the cabinet. Featured are the Crown, and Beveled glass in the door.

(Rear view) The rear view showes the back completely finished.

This photo showes the inside of the cabinet, and the decorative hinges. (The piece was proped on two pieces of unfinished wood in order to take the photo.)

In this second view from the front you can see the finish of the Red Oak.

Judges Comments
EW : I think of this as a vernacular style, fancy yet utilitarian. You appear to have done a good job with the construction, although your photos leave a bit too much to our imagination.
RJ : You have evidently taken a lot of time and trouble over this piece. I do wish your photography showed it off to better advantage. Clean uncluttered backgrounds work best along with good lighting.
